House Counseling

Housing Counseling

We Get It. We Can Help!

Housing is our most pressing need, and whether you are a renter or a homeowner, stable housing is essential for your wellbeing.

Unfortunately, financial struggles are often the biggest hurdle to stable housing.

Our Money Talks webinars teach the basics of money management and give you tools to effectively manage your money and have your money work for you.

Understand your rights as a renter, how the Fair Housing Act can protect you, and what is involved in becoming a homeowner.

Our team works with you one-on-one to provide guidance, education, and resources to lead you to stable, affordable housing.

We understand that finances are personal and talking about them can be challenging. Understanding money management is an essential life skill, but it is not something that we learn in school.

We partner our Money Talks workshops with one-on-one financial coaching designed for your needs and financial goals.

Our certified Financial Coaches work as trusted partners to provide the information you need to take control of your finances in a way that works for you. We offer services masked in-person or virtually for your safety and convenience.

Renters, landlords and homebuyers will find useful information in this workshop that discusses violations of Fair Housing Act, mortgage and lending violations and how to file a Fair Housing complaint.

This workshop is part of our Pre-Purchase Homebuying Program and includes presentations by homebuying industry experts such as a Realtor, Inspector, Real Estate Attorney, and a Mortgage Lender. Nameer and his wife dreamed of homeownership for their family of four; but when his wife passed away in 2018, he had to move into his mother’s home with his teenage children. With only two bedrooms, it was “a little crowed,” but he knew it was only temporary; because he never gave up on their dream.

The Journey Forward partners with Chicago South Suburbs Habitat for Humanity providing financial education and housing counseling. We share their belief that everyone deserves a safe place to call home.

When Nameer came to The Journey Forward from Habitat, he was anxious to put a plan in place to give his children a home. He worked with his financial counselor and strengthened his credit score, created a workable budget for his family, and addressed credit collections.
