Help create a new future for struggling families and individuals. We have seen firsthand how a small amount of assistance can have a big impact. When you support the work of The Journey Forward, you assist families working toward a brighter, more sustainable future. We help them change their financial habits, stabilize their housing needs and work toward their personal success.
Are you looking for a way to get your, employees, civic, or other group involved? Host a donation drive. Grocery store cards, gas cards, Target, WalMart, are invaluable resources for families who are struggling to make ends meet.
We have volunteer opportunities and welcome community-minded individuals who are interested in making an impact. Throughout the year we need volunteers for community outreach, fundraising events, administrative help and special initiatives.

Nameer and his wife dreamed of homeownership for their family of four; but when his wife passed away in 2018, he had to move into his mother’s home with his teenage children. With only two bedrooms, it was “a little crowed,” but he knew it was only temporary; because he never gave up on their dream. The Journey Forward partners with Chicago South Suburbs Habitat for Humanity providing financial education and housing counseling. We share their belief that everyone deserves a safe place to call home.
When Dana started services with The Journey Forward, her life seemed overwhelming. Recently released from incarceration, she wasn’t sure where or how to rebuild her life. Reentering society was challenging, and she had concerns about employment with her background. Her parole officer referred her to The Journey Forward at the Martin Luther King Community Service Center. When Dana arrived at the Journey Forward, her Family Coach, Juanita, listened carefully and compassionately to her needs and goals. Juanita connected Dana with a team of people committed to helping her. They kept her motivated, accountable, and hopeful.
